West Pelzer Growing Despite Small Footprint

Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer

West Pelzer, Anderson County’s smallest town, continues to grow, despite challenges of finding a place for businesses and new housing.

With a population of just under 1,000, West Pelzer covers .54 square miles, with S.C. 8 the main road through town.

But the town, founded in 1918, as a town with fewer rules than the mill-run neighbor Pelzer (which was not incorporated until 1952, though the community was founded in 1881) has more demand than space available, according to Mayor Jim Riddle.

Riddle offers updates on his town in this interview with the Anderson Observer.
