Interim Honea Path Mayor Jim Taylor has spent almost his entire life in the small town, and is happy to keep the top seat warm until the July 15 special election.

He said the town is excited about the growth of the town and the direction it’s heading, especially the cleanup at the Chiquola Mill site, which has a plan in the works.

"We’ve already got the money set aside and everything as far as clearing the mill property and we do have an interested party that's going to be building multiple types of housing over in that area, primarily focused to the people of 55 years of age or higher,” said Taylor.

The first step will be to get the site cleared for the potential new development, said Taylor. The town is also demolishing and clearing the lots of 10 abandoned/uninhabitable houses

“We are going to have those razed and cleared off and get them out of the way so we can make sure anything in any neighborhood around Honea Path is not pulled down by someone not taking care of their property,” said Taylor.

Tayor said the town is also looking forward to the first regulation soccer field in Honea Path.

“We're having the first ever full-size regulation soccer field being built as we speak,” said Taylor. The field will have soccer field turf, fencing, lighting and climate-controlled bathrooms.

The mayor also said the town is looking to help refurbish some of the downtown buildings to help the business district growth as well.

Taylor discussed upcoming events, the learning curve for the temporary office and more in this interview with the Anderson Observer.
