Infrastructure upgrades on sidewalks, water lines and sewer lines are some of the most important things in Belton heading into summer.
Recreation is also getting a boost with upgrades at Leda Poore Park ready to break ground on a new bathroom.
“It (Leda Poore) is used a lot for soccer and baseball, softball, football,” said Mayor Eleanor Dorn. “At the other park, Abney Park, we’re still working on the bathrooms, getting close to having those finished. We got a $25,000 grant to rehab those bathrooms that are with pickleball courts and playgrounds."
The Belton Community and Recreation Center is also busy, with fitness equipment, classes and other events, Dorn said.
Three new businesses are also on their way to Belton. Little Caesars, Domino’s and Waffle House are all at various stages of getting started, which represent a substantial investment in the city.
The Belton-Anderson trail is also still in the works, with the last step being to secure funding for the five-mile trail that would connect the two cities. Both cities are looking for grants and sponsorships to expedite work on the trail, which could represent the beginning of something bigger by connecting to other trails.
“The dream is to connect the city of Anderson to the city of Belton, Anderson County's version of the Swamp Rabbit Trail,” said Dorn. “I think it'll be a great success. It's just a matter of getting the funds together.”
Dorn discussed this news and more in her interview with the Anderson Observer.
