Infrastructure, Road Work Part of Williamston’s Meeting Demands of Growth

Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer

New subdivisions are under construction in Williamston as demand for housing continues in one of the county’s fastest growing towns. The growth brings challenges, including infrastructure.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is behind on plans to repave the main street running through town, S.C. 20, but still plans to begin the work within the year. Another five roads are slated for paving, and others are in the queue.

A sewer upgrade is also under way, along with the mill village water line replacement is near completion, which will bring, among other improvements, the lines back along the streets to allow for easier service and maintenance.

Plans are also in place to potentially replace the restrooms in Mineral Springs Park to meet the demands of the growing number of people using the park, which opened a new playground last year.

Mayor Rockey Burgess offered details on these projects and other work in this interview with the Anderosn Observer.
