In Split Vote, City Oks Annexation on East-West Parkway

Anderson City, in a split vote or 5-4, gave final approval to the annexation and development of a 22-acre tract on the East-West Parkway on Monday. By a vote of 7-1, council moved to allow a planned development of five of the 22 acres located near Kings Road.
Councilmen Kyle Newton, Luis Martinez, Greg Steele and Councilwoman Bea Thompson voted against the measure.
Prestwick Companies will build 80 apartment units for low-income senior citizens on the five acres. Prestwick developed the Ashton Pointe Apartments in Anderson off Salem Church Road in Anderson, The new development is set to include a sidewalk and/or pedestrian trail connecting the apartments to the parkway.
The five acres under development backs up to Hartwell Lake, and the front almost 15 acres of the property, which has large electrical lines across the acreage.
