Cancer Association Color Run a Day of Champions

Under a bright Saturday autumn sky, runners, survivors, and families filled the streets of Anderson on Saturday morning for the Cancer Association of Anderson’s annual “Colors Against Cancer” 3K color run, a day that blended community celebration with quiet moments of gratitude.

“Oh man, we had an amazing day,” said Angie Stringer, the association’s executive director. “The color run, “Colors Against Cancer,” was amazing. We had people out here, we had warriors out here.” Stringer described the “warrior walk” as the emotional centerpiece of the day, when cancer survivors — or “warriors,” as the organization calls them — carried a banner marked “Cancer Association Warriors” while walking together to the AnMed Cancer Center and back.

The event marked one in a series of programs the association has held this fall, including the Concert of Hope and Remembrance and a community balloon event in early September. Stringer said construction on the group’s new home at 215 East Calhoun Street is progressing quickly.

“It has walls and a roof now,” she said. “That’s going to give us expanded area to be able to have more programs. We’ll have a teaching kitchen, a multipurpose room, and lots of space for our warriors to come in and have classes, meet together, and fellowship.”

The organization hopes to move into its new facility before summer of 2026.
