A new exhibit, “Amerikan Gothic,” opens Friday at the Anderson Arts Center with more than 40 works from a pair of local artists expressing their experience in America.

“Shea Abramo and Nat Morris are the artists and they have come together to create a show that shows what's happening in our world, connecting the past to the present, including socioeconomics and personal relationships,” said Anderson Arts Center Director Erin Spainhour. “I'm very excited to see how this show comes together.”

“I tried to understand my experiences in America and what seems modern, important, or missing information,” said Abramo. “My goal was to just highlight the things that I've experienced personally and bring it to the surface and see how others can relate.”

Morris said the focus of his work in racial inequality and injustice.

“I want people to be aware, and just to not to repeat the same thing,” said Morris. “It’s good to look at history, so you don't repeat the same um pitfalls and the horrors of the past.”

Spainhour said the artists have been working for more than a year on putting the show together. The opening is Friday 6-9 p.m., and the show will run through Aug. 22. Anderson Art Center galleries are open Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
