Standpipe Festival Enjoys Big Crowds, Perfect Weather
The 36th annual Belton Standpipe Heritage & Arts Festival will be remembered for near-record crowds, perfect weather, music and art, but it might be most remembered for one of the largest car shows in the history of the event.

Heritage Days Kicks Off Standpipe Festival Weekend
From cooking like pioneers, stained-glass making and the art of sliver smithing, to a visit from "Benjamin Franklin," students were offered entertaining education as part of the two-day event leading up to the annual Standpipe Festival, which is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m.
Prisma Health Planning Expansion in Anderson

Early Voting Workers Wanted for 2024 Elections
Early voting workers are needed for the Presidential Preference Primaries in February, the Primary Elections in June and the Presidential Election in November. Early voting workers will be paid $75 per day with a one-time training pay of $60. Early voting is conducted two weeks prior to each election.

Deadline Near to Register for November Elections
It’s not too late to register to vote in Anderson County’s November municipal elections, but time is growing short. Only those registered 30 days before the Nov. 7 elections will be eligible to vote in the races in Belton, Honea Path, Iva, Pendleton, Pelzer and West Pelzer. Friday is the deadline for in-person registration, Sunday is the deadline for online registration.
Library Offers Halloween Costume Exchange
The library’s Youth Services department is accepting the donation of gently used costumes, dance outfits, etc. that are in good condition (i.e., show no visible stains, have minimal wear and tear, etc.) through Oct. 15. The outfits can be dropped off at the main branch of the library.
Pendleton Scarecrow Contest Gets Historical
For year 12, Pendleton’s annual scarecrow contest is going historical, with a few fun exceptions.
The event features scarecrow historical figures such as Francis Marion and Thomas Green Clemson, as well as Andy and Barney on a Mayberry bench.
Poll: Trump Top Choice of Most S.C. Republicans
With less than five months until the 2024 South Carolina Feb. 24 GOP presidential primary, half of S.C. Republicans said they’re most likely to support Trump for the Republican nomination. Council Oks Tax Breaks to Bring 243 New Jobs
Neither company was named, but the first, a packaging concern, will bring a $64 million investment, and 215 news at an average pay of $23 per-hour. The second, a maker of high-end hydraulics materials, will bring 28 jobs at $19.38 per-hour and a capital investment of $5.4 million.

Council to Consider Tax Incentives for Two Companies Adding Jobs
Anderson County Council will consider tax incentives for the expansion of two unnamed businesses already located in the county which would add a total of 243 new jobs and investments of more than $70 million, as part of Tuesday’s meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the historic courthouse downtown.
AnMed Hosts 20th Annual Teddy Bear Clinic
The purpose of the event is to demystify doctor and hospital visits for children (and their parents) through a series of activities and displays offering simulation of medical procedures with the teddy bear, or other stuffed animal as the patient.
Anderson Courthouse Proceedings to Be Moved Due to Elevator Issues
In the interim, court proceedings will be moved to the historic courthouse, the Ronnie Townsend Building on North Main, the civic center, the county building at 1428 Pearman Dairy Rd, and other potential sites to be determined later.

City Approves New Voting Map for Council
Anderson City Council on Monday gave unanimous approval to the required redistricting map which must be in place in time to plan for the city’s April 2 municipal elections.
