County Fall Focus: Roads, Trails, Jobs, Economic Development
An in-depth study of every foot of the county's 1,534 miles or county roads is expected to be complete before the first of October. County road work (and bridge work) have been kicked down the road for decades by county councils, creating an urgent need for funding to save the roads which can still be saved. The cost, which increases weekly due to materials costs and the lack of companies doing the work, is estimated at nearly $10 million annually, more than triple the amount budgted in recent years. If the referendum fails, there is little hope for good roads in Anderson County.

Members of the all-Republican panel seeking more independence from federal health regulators were receptive to speakers who sewed doubt about vaccine safety and efficacy, as well as distrust in the scientific establishment. Testimony began with an hourlong presentation from Aaron Siri, the managing partner at a New York law firm that 2021 tax filings show received over $3 million from an influential Texas-based group that campaigns against vaccine requirements.
Trains, Planes, Automobiles (and More) Featured in Belton Exhibit
The exhibit features a display of antique autos and machinery, including a restored Model-T Ford and a salvaged Model-T Truck, a vintage race car, Belton’s restored 1979 Mack fire truck, and other tractors and service vehicles. Newer electric modes of transportation will be on display, in addition to miniature models of planes, autos, and ships, antique wagon and cart wheels, an airplane training cockpit, vintage bikes and motorcycles, train artifacts, and photos and memorabilia of travelers using different modes of transportation.
Opinion: City Delay on Redistricting a Passionate Misstep
It’s a little late now to ponder why it took the city so long to put this process, driven by council, in motion (final census numbers were available in the fall of 2020). Anderson County approved their redistricting map in early 2022.
City Council Postpones Vote on Redistricting
In both the work session and council meeting, four of the nine council members in attendance expressed concerns of the fifth draft of the map which moved some boundaries, realigning the city to meet legal requirements based on the United States Census of 2020.

City Council to Vote on Redistricting Map
Anderson City Council will vote on the fifth (and potentially final) draft of a redistricting map which will include territory changes for some members of council on Monday at 6 p.m. in the council chambers downtown. A public hearing is planned as part of the process.
Dr. Mack Burriss Passes Away at 101 (Update)
A graveside service will be held Monday, September 18, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Old Silver Brook Cemetery with Reverend Dr. Michael York and Reverend Noelle Read officiating. The family will be at the residence and will greet family and friends immediately following the service.
