Update: City Readies for Paving Main Street, Upgrades Parks
Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer
Work is already under way to pave Main Street downtown in the City of Anderson, with block-by-block replacement of water lines and other underground infrastructure. Once that work is complete, repaving will begin.
Meanwhile, the total overhaul of Linley Park is near completion, with a grand opening tentatively set for the first week in June. The new park not only expands nature tracks and other features, but restores Whitner Creek. Cater’s Lake is also in the process of being refurbished or improved, with the dredging of the lake, closing of a road, expanded landscaping and more upgrades. The city brought in wildlife experts to relocate fish, ducks and turtles, but a few were missed, creating some misinformation on social media.
The city is also witnessing growth in all recreation facilities and parks, as well as the downtown shared kitchen.
As successful Soiree is also planting the seeds for more downtown events.
Mayor Terence Roberts offers updates in this interview with the Anderson Observer.
