Standpipe Festival Adds Two to Belton Hall of Fame

Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer

Belton’s annual Standpipe Festival kicked off Saturday with the induction of a pair of deceased educators into the Belton Museum’s Hall of Fame: Lida Poore and Tolleson Jackson Bratton.

Poore left a legacy of work in Belton, including the donation of land which is now the city’s central recreation area. Bratton was hailed for his leadership during the merger of the three high schools, Belton, Honea Path and Geer-Gantt into a single school.

Despite the threat of rain, which never materialized, the festival brought thousands to Belton for the entertainment, music, food, arts and a car show.

The fireworks were postponed and will be used as part of the town’s Christmas celebrations.
