Some Railroad Crossings in County to Close During March Repairs
Observer Reports
CSX Transportation will begin a three-week railroad maintenance project in Anderson and Greenville counties on March 2, with work expected to wrap up around March 20. The project will focus on installing new railroad ties along the CSX line running through both counties.
Railroad crossings affected by the work will be temporarily closed to traffic for periods ranging from two to five days, depending on the level of maintenance required at each site. Crossings will not remain closed for the full three-week duration; each location will only shut down during its scheduled work window. CSX notes that all dates and closure times are estimates and could change with little or no notice because of weather, field conditions, or other unforeseen circumstances once construction begins.
Company representatives say they will prioritize “one way in/one way out” crossings and aim to restore access at those locations within 24 hours or less whenever possible. Motorists are urged to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time while the work is underway.
To help residents, businesses, and local governments track the work, CSX and its contractor are using a fully interactive Google map that provides daily, real-time updates on each impacted crossing. As the project progresses, users can zoom in on Anderson or Greenville County, click any map icon, and see the latest information for that specific crossing at any time of day.
Officials in other communities where the map has been deployed say the tool has proven highly effective in keeping municipalities, emergency services, and residents informed about changing closure times and completion dates. Local agencies in Anderson and Greenville counties are expected to share the map link and updates through their usual communication channels as the March project approaches.
