Saluda River Rally Trek to Piedmont Riverfront Park Highlights Saturday’s Event

Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer

The Saluda River Rally kicked off its 16th year Saturday solidifying its place as a major spring gathering of kayaks, volunteers, and Special Olympics support that now draws participants from multiple states.

A benefit for Area 14-Anderson County Special Olympics athletes, this year’s Rally featured, for the first time, a 9-mile paddle from Dolly Cooper Park to the newly opened Piedmont Riverfront Park.

Newcomers joined those who have rarely, if ever, missed this event this year, which offered an early taste of summer weather.
