Adoption Month
South Carolina recognizes November as National Adoption Month, with Monday, November 24, designated as Adoption Day. Currently, 234 children in the state’s foster care system are legally free and waiting for permanent families, with 82 percent aged 6-18 and 18 percent in sibling groups. State DSS Director Tony Catone said adoption’s role in bringing hope and restoration. Throughout the year, the South Carolina Department of Social Services works with community partners to match families with waiting children. November serves as a critical time to raise awareness and support for adoption, especially for older youth in foster care.
