New Library, Dime Store Highlight Downtown Growth in Iva

A new library downtown, updates on the old dime store on the square and a flurry of activities are among the highlights for the Town of Iva moving into summer.

After good turnouts for events in the spring, including the Spring Express and Memorial Day service, the summer brought a July 4 celebration and the state Dixie State Softball Championships which attracted participants from all over South Carolina.

The new library which opened on the town square in May has been a welcome addition to Iva, said Town Manager Tim Taylor.

“Everybody was really surprised and amazed at how beautiful it is,” said Taylor. “It's very modern, it's very clean. It’s done a lot for downtown and it looks great. I had no idea it would turn out to be so beautiful and I knew our mayor and our council are just so happy to work with the county and with the library on having that done. And the end result is just amazing.”

Taylor said he hopes for an additional boost for downtown in renovation of the old dime store on the square which should be complete in 2026.

Meanwhile, Taylor said newcomers have moved to Iva from as far away as California as growth continues in Iva. Taylor discussed this and more in this interview with the Anderson Observer.
