New Company to Bring 54 New Jobs to County
Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer
Anderson County Council on Tuesday approved investment tax incentives for a new business which is projected to bring a $51 million investment and 54 jobs.
The company, code named “Project Pine,” is a plasma gasification concern, and the jobs will pay $53 per hour.
The plasma gasification industry uses extremely high temperatures to convert waste into a clean-burning fuel called syngas. This "waste-to-energy" process reduces landfill waste and can destroy hazardous materials. While it offers benefits like energy generation and resource recovery, it faces challenges with high costs, energy consumption, and scalability.
Anderson County Economic Development Director Burriss Nelson said the first year economic impact of the company is projected at $37 million.
Also on Tuesday, passed a stormwater design manual aimed at creating cleaner water in the lakes, rivers and streams in the county.
