Meals on Wheels to Open West Pelzer Senior Center

Observer Reports

Meals on Wheels-Anderson will host a drop-in for a new community center, “The Senior Place: West Pelzer,” Monday at 10 a.m. at the O'Dell Community Center. 3 Hindman Street, in West Pelzer.

The Senior Place: West Pelzer, scheduled to open Aug. 7, will provide a place for senior citizens to gather for a nutritious meal, social and recreational activities, and educational opportunities.

“The Senior Place will be a vital lifeline for seniors in this area to provide nutritional meals and opportunities to socialize that help reduce their feelings of social isolation,” said Laurie Ashley, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels-Anderson.

“West Pelzer is excited to partner with Meals on Wheels-Anderson for The Senior Place,” said West Pelzer Mayor Blake Sanders. “This fits directly into the implementation of our Rural Renewal Master Plan as a way to engage the senior population and provide a valuable resource to our surrounding communities.”

Meals on Wheels-Anderson currently operates two similar centers in Anderson and Pendleton as part of a contract with the Appalachian Council of Governments.  For more than 40 years Meals on Wheels-Anderson has delivered hope for countless senior and disabled individuals across Anderson County through home delivered meals in addition to other services such as The Senior Place centers, medical transportation, and lawn care.
