County Music’s Martina McBride, whose hits include “Independence Day”, “Safe in the Arms of Love” and “Wild Angels.” will headline Anderson County’s annual Celebrate Anderson activities Sept. 3 at the Anderson County Civic Center Amphitheater.

McBride, who has sold more than 23 million albums, has earned 20 top-10 country singles, and six number-one hits.

The daughter of a Kansas dairy farmer, McBride started her career in the business selling merchandise on a Garth Brooks tour.

Since that time, she has won four Country Music Association awards, three Academy of Country Music awards and received some 14 Grammy nominations.

Admission is free. The gate will open at 5 p.m. and the concert is scheduled for 8 p.m., and will be followed by a fireworks show.

Labor Day weekend and the civic center will kick off Sept. 1 with hot air balloons, a Cancer Association of Anderson “Hot Air Affair” fundraiser event which also aims to increase awareness of the mission of hope and support provided by the Cancer Association of Anderson.

“Every year, we give a few of our patients the opportunity to take a flight or tether," said CAA Director Angie Stringer. "It may be a ‘bucket list’ wish of just the chance to take their minds off cancer, even if it is just for a few peaceful moments. When I think of Hot Air Balloons I think of freedom, of rising above our problems and all the obstacles that may arise – this means even more to someone who is battling cancer."

The CAA will host a couple of training sessions for those who would like to volunteer and/or crew with the balloons. For volunteer or sponsorship opportunities at the Hot Air Affair, please email Angela@CAAnderson.org or call 864-222-3500
