Library Hosts Exhibit of Work by Art Slam Winner

Art is at the heart of the Anderson community, and the Anderson County Library and Anderson Arts Center have teamed up to spread this news.
The partnership has led to a new exhibit by Wendy Converse, winner of the recent 2026 Art Slam at the main library in Anderson.
The work of Artist Wendy Converse, Anderson Arts Center Arts Slam Winner 2026, is on display there through May 30. Converse’s work is both whimsical and serious, bringing to life pieces created from common objects. Her process is simple, but the results are not.
“I'm actually not one to sketch my work before I start,” said Converse. “I like to just kind of let it evolve. So I usually work on several pieces at once, create a lot of different kinds of pieces, and then kind of Tetris them together, see which pieces look best with which. And then the last pieces I add tend to be arms, legs, and then facial features, and that kind of gives them their finished personality, and that's when all the fun happens, really.”
It’s when the fun for those who view her work also begins, and smiles were plentiful at the recent opening of her exhibit at the library.
Art exhibits are just another of the library’s offerings to the community. As a sponsor of Art Slam, where artists are given a selection of materials chosen by the Art Center and asked to create a new work on a very short deadline, the library features an exhibit to show off the winner’s core work.
