Incumbent Rep. Chapman Wins Reelection to S.C. House Dist 8 Seat

Incumbent S.C. Rep. Don Chapman, R-Anderson, who represents District 8, defeated challenger Sherry Hodges in Tuesday’s Republican primary runoff elections, taking 54 percent, or 4,183 votes. Chapman will face Democrat Demetrius Carson in the November general election. Chapman was first elected in 2022.

In the Republican race for governor, Anderson County voter numbers reflected the trending votes for the rest of the state, choosing Alan Wilson over Lt. Gov. Pam Everette, with 71.9 percent of the 18,106 votes for the race in Anderson County. As of 9 p.m. statewide, Wilson had double the number of votes with 70 percent reporting. Wilson’s Democratic opponent in November is Jermaine Johnson. Other party candidates for governor are United Citizens’ Michael Addison, Green Party’s Walid Hakim, and Workers’ Party Gary Votour.

The projected winner for the open S.C. Commissioner of Agriculture position is Cody Simpson, with 55 percent of the 17,890 votes cast in Anderson county and 62 percent of the vote statewide. Candidates for this office from other parties in the general election are: Democrat DeShawn Blanding, United Citizens Party Chris Nelums, and Libertarian Michael Sullens.

In other Republican contests, David Stumbo is projected the winner over Stephen Goldfinch for the party’s nomination for S.C. Attorney General. Stumbo received 65 percent of the Anderson County vote, and 54 percent statewide Stumbo will face Democrat Richard Hricik in November.
