In a move to aimed at reviving a local cultural hub, the Honea Path Arts Center has officially reopened its doors, now under the direction of Amy Moore. The center, a long-standing feature of the community, aims to become a space for local artists and residents of all ages.
The reopening marks a new chapter for the center, which willoffer a variety of art classes and exhibits.
"We're hoping to open it up to our community for all age groups to do art classes," said Moore. Her goal is to host at least two or three art lessons a week for both adults and children, with the broader ambition of bringing the community together.
The center, which had been dormant for a time, has been met with enthusiasm from the public. "Lots of people have been very excited, very glad, and ready to get it going," said Moore.
Looking ahead, the Arts Center has a gradual rollout plan. Several classes are scheduled for the fall leading up to the Christmas holidays, with more expected to be added in the new year. For now, all announcements and class schedules are being posted on the center's Facebook page, with an Instagram account and a website in development.
Moore, who holds a diploma in art from her native England, has a diverse background in the arts, with a professional history in backstage theater.
"I don't guess I would call myself an artist, but I guess I am," she said, reflecting on her path to directing the new center.
