Growth of Cleo Bailey Experiment Garden a Blooming Success

Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer

Summer is bringing growth at  The Cleo Bailey Experiment, which launched its vision for a community hub on the East Side of Anderson, with the exposition of fresh produce on the vine.

Zephaniah and Whitney Smith, with the assistance of an army of volunteers, have filled the property with blackberries, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, cantaloupes, watermelon, pumpkins, apples, and more, all destined to feed those who often don’t have access to fresh produce.

It’s a maker of growth for the project, which began when the couple purchased the old elementary school on Anderson's East Side to build a vibrant community center, which includes area cleanup projects and an art initiative to beautiful the building with the work of local artists.

Whitney Smith offered this update on the work in this interview with the Anderson Observer.
