Filing for City of Anderson April 7 Elections Opens Today
Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer
City of Anderson voters will head to the polls April 7 to choose a mayor and multiple City Council members, with candidate filing opening at noon today, and closing at noon January 29.
The municipal election is set for April 7, with any necessary runoff scheduled for April 21. Anyone wishing to vote in the election or a runoff must be registered no later than March 7.
Prospective candidates must begin the filing process at the Anderson County Registration and Elections Office, 301 N. Main St., then submit the required forms and a filing fee of $300 for mayor or $200 for council to the City Clerk and Treasurer at City Hall, 401 S. Main St.
Voters will elect a mayor and four City Council members in the regular city election. Seat 1, Seat 3, and Seat 5 will be chosen from single‑member districts, while the mayor’s office and At‑Large Seat 7 will be decided by voters citywide.
In addition, a special election will be held to elect a council member to fill the unexpired term of Seat 2, which has been vacated by Luis Martizen. The term for the Seat 2 special election winner will run through June 30, 2028.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day without interruption, and election managers will administer the required oath to ensure each voter is qualified and has not already voted in the election. Voters who are blind, physically handicapped, or unable to read or write are entitled to assistance from a person of their choice, excluding an employer, the employer’s agent, or a union officer or agent, and must notify managers if assistance is needed.
Voters who cannot enter their polling place because of physical handicap or age may cast their ballots from their vehicle under the curbside voting provision, with assistance from election managers once notified. Registered electors who cannot vote in person may be eligible to vote absentee and should contact the County Board of Voter Registration at 260‑4035 for more information.
The election will use multiple city precincts and polling places, including Whitehall Elementary School (Anderson 1/1) at 702 Whitehall Road and Concord Elementary School (Anderson 1/2) at 2701 Calrossie Road. Other locations include Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (Anderson 2/1) at 209 Board St., Calhoun Academy of the Arts (Anderson 2/2) at 1520 E.
