Council to Consider $137.8M 2026-2027 Budget

Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer

Anderson County Council will consider, on second reading, the fiscal year 2026-2027 budget as part of Tuesday’s 6:30 p.m. meeting in the historic courthouse. The budget will require a third reading for final approval.

The proposed budget, with general-fund appropriations of $137,873,400 and a total millage ceiling of 83.2 mills, exclusive of debt-service millage to be set later by the auditor, allocates $66.39 million to public safety (including the mandated hiring of deputies to serve in the new, expanded Anderson County Detention Center which is slated to open in November), $45.75 million for county government administration, and $13.8 million for roads.

At 6 p.m.'s recognition meeting, council will honor the Crescent High School softball team for winning the Class 3A state championship.
