City to Vote on ATAX Distribution, 3 Annexations

Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer

Anderson City Council will consider requests from the Accommodations Tax (ATAX) Advisory Committee at tonight’s meeting at 6 p.m. in council chambers downtown. The city is recommending $284,034 in distributions from the $376,000 in requests. (See chart at end of this story for details).

The three largest separate requests were from the Anderson Convention and Visitors Bureau, totaling $103,000.

City Council will also give final vote on a proposal to annex and rezone 31.5 acres at 216 Vandiver Road. The developer petitioning for the annexation plans to construct a 62-lot single-family residential subdivision on the property which borders Vandiver Road and is just behind T.L. Hanna High School. Under the city’s new Unified Development Ordinance, the proposed subdivision would use the conservation-design option rather than a conventional layout, allowing flexibility in arranging homes and at least 40 percent of the site would have to be set aside as a conservation area where development is prohibited.

First reading is also scheduled on the annexation of 61.80 acres located on Hembree Road for mixed residential with plans for 212 lots for single-family homes.

Another first-reading request to annex 4.96 acres on Salem Church Road will also be considered.
