City to Consider Appointments, Upgraded Holiday Decorations
Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer
Anderson City Council will consider the annexation of 7.53 acres located at 3801 Clemson Boulevard at their regular meeting Monday at 6 p.m. in council chambers downtown. The current use of this property is a Publix grocery store and an abutting storefront. In 2016, the remainder of the shopping center was annexed into the city limits.
Council will also vote on an agreement with Broadway Water and Sewer District to bill and collect sewer revenues for Electric City Utilities sewer customers in their district. Request approval of agreement with Broadway Water to bill and collect sewer revenues from City sewer customers in Broadway’s water service area. The City of Anderson currently serves 32 sewer customers within the Broadway Water service district, and is within the city’s designated sewer service territory. The number of customers is expected to grow as development continues. These customers are currently billed by the city based on information provided by the Broadway Water meter readers. Under the new proposal, Broadway Water will assume responsibility for billing and collecting the city’s sewer charges as part of their regular utility billing process. The city will pay Broadway Water a fee of $4.00 per customer for this service.
City council will also look ahead to the holidays, with a request to expand downtown Christmas lights. In 2020, the city signed an agreement with Spruce Lighting & Events to elevate the downtown light display, including installation of additional lighting along Main Street, holiday displays in Carolina Wren Park, and lighting the Pavilion. In collaboration with Spruce Lighting and Events, council is seeking additional funding to meet challenges posed by supply chain disruptions and escalating material costs to maintain the same level of festive spirit for downtown this Christmas season. The cost of the holiday light installation with Spruce Lighting and Events would be $125,800, which will include: lighting Main Street, Carolina Wren Park, Church Street Heritage Plaza, North Main Commons, North Linley Park and adding City Hall and South Linley Park as additions this year.
