Celebrate Anderson Gets “Kool” this Weekend

Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer

For the first time in years, the annual Celebrate Anderson festival is shifting its musical focus from country to funk, with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees Kool & the Gang set to headline the Labor Day weekend event. The group, known for its decades-long string of hits, including the anthem "Celebration," will perform on Sunday at the William A. Floyd Amphitheater. A fireworks show will follow.

The decision to feature Kool & the Gang came after years of community feedback requesting a different style of music. Anderson County Administrator Rusty Burns said the band's repertoire made them the ideal choice for the occasion. "As the hitmakers who have given the world the song 'Celebration,' they are the perfect fit for our Celebrate Anderson Festival," Burns said. "These world-class performers know how to bring just the right blend to Anderson County."

The 2025 event marks the 26th year of the free festival, which is an annual gift from the county to its citizens. In addition to the concert, the evening will conclude with a fireworks show. A Jeep Show and the annual Cancer Association of Anderson’s Hot Air Affair are also part of the weekend events.

Organizers are expecting a capacity crowd and are urging attendees to secure free tickets in advance. The tickets, which will be available starting Friday at www.andersonevents.com, help festival organizers prepare for the audience size and communicate important updates. Attendees can choose between a "Lawn" ticket for those who prefer to bring their own blankets and chairs, or a "Standing Room Only" ticket for those who wish to be closer to the stage.
