Belton Ghost Walk to Feature New Haunts

Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer

The homes of seven ghosts are on the list for this year’s Belton’s Ghost Walk, set for Thursday beginning at 6 p.m. at the Belton Depot.

The Belton Museum, which has been tagged “the most haunted place in the Upstate” by local paranormal specialists and ghost hunters, is the first stop on the tour. Four ghosts are alleged to haunt the premises: a little girl, a distinguished gentleman in a top hat, an African-American porter, and a sprit who does not like electronics.

Another stop is at the Listening Room on the town square, which was the Riddle-Duckworth Home and Auto Appliances in the 1950s. In May of 1962 Mrs. Lawson, who was there to purchase a refrigerator, was struck by the falling freight elevator, filled with newly delivered refrigerators that were being taken to the second floor for storage. She sometimes still can be heard in the building.

Ghost Walk participants will also hear tales of tragic deaths on prom night, and those who are still seen wandering the area; the story of Medium and Tarot Card Reader Madame Oliverte and the evil spirit; plus, a one-armed pool shark, ghostly footsteps in a historic home and a night in the Barber’s Ghost Room of the Geer Hotel.

Advanced tickets are $15 for adults, and $10 for those under 10. Day of event tickets are $20.
