Anderson Tree Lighting Brings Crowds, Santa to Town
Observer Reports
Anderson County’s annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony drew a crowd to the county square Thursday evening, after organizers moved the event from Friday due to the threat of rain. The centerpiece of the celebration was the county’s largest tree yet—topping out at 57 feet—transforming the historic square into a festive gathering place for families and neighbors.
The evening featured speeches from Anderson Mayor Terence Roberts and Anderson County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn, who both spoke about the spirit of community and the importance of coming together during the holidays. The T.L. Hanna Jazz Band added to the festive atmosphere with lively holiday music, filling the square with familiar tunes that had children dancing and adults humming along.
A visit from Santa Claus brought extra excitement, as children waited in line for photos and holiday greetings. The countdown to the tree lighting was met with cheers, as the towering evergreen burst into color and light, marking the unofficial start of the holiday season in Anderson County. For many, the evening was a reminder of the power of tradition and the joy of gathering as a community, rain or shine.
