Administrator: Big Economic News Expected Soon

Anderson County’s Sports and Entertainment Center is experiencing the most concert activity in many years, with July’s kick off of “Rock the Country,” which is expected to bring more than 40,000 to Anderson, followed by Celebrate Anderson with “Kool & the Gang,” a September Jamey Johnson concert and the Marshal Tucker Band in November.

Meanwhile the sports fields and courts remain busy with softball, soccer, cricket and other sports.

Anderson County Administrator Rusty Burns said renovations and additional work had made the facility better suited for concerts and sports.

“We’ve made some great improvements at the amphitheater,” said Burns. “Some of them were just completed last week. And we've also made the balloon launch field a venue in itself. We've also done a little additional work so we can have better concerts inside the civic center. We think this trend is going to continue.”

Burns expects the “very active” softball and baseball activities are only going to continue. The county is also courting state and regional tournaments, including the Little League World Series for the property.

Meanwhile Kid Venture continues to be a popular destination for families with children.

“And there’s a huge demand and outcry, not only for youth recreation, but for senior recreation,” said Burns. “That’s another thing that we're going to begin to address. Plus, we've got to do some work on some of our walking tracks because there are a lot of people using those walking tracks, and we're already putting plans together to do some upgrades.”

Burns also said that the economic development news should include substantial announcements before the end of the year.

“I think we're looking at having six announcements before December,” said Burns. “They are in various states of happening, and they're really good, high quality, and they're diverse. I mean wildly different things, and so we're happy about that.”

“Plus, we have two monsters that we're working on and those are going to take some time to mature. But I think we're in good shape on both of those. But those we're talking about are billions, not millions.”

Burns discussed these topics as well as the proposed roads referendum and more in this interview with the Anderson Observer.
