Letter to the Editor: Jermaine Johnson Best Choice for Governor

Folks, as we approach the last days before the South Carolina Democratic Primary, I emphatically implore you to choose joy, justice, and Jermaine Johnson for our next governor.

Vote for a candidate who represents all South Carolinians! Let me count the ways:

1. Jermaine is the most qualified candidate. Period.

2. Like me and many other SC voters, Dr. Johnson clawed his way out of poverty through hard work, guts, grit, and integrity…NOT off the backs of the poor.

3. Jermaine is our best shot for a win in November because he WILL energize disaffected voters—black, white, poor, rich, moderate, progressive—while GROWING the electorate.

4. Many progressives and moderate voters, including myself, will not vote for a payday lender under any circumstances because we have witnessed and lived the vicious cycle of poverty caused by predatory lending. Simply put, I will NEVER dishonor my late father by giving my sacred vote to a payday lender, regardless of his party affiliation. Period. Said payday lender has yet to directly ask for my vote.

5. Jermaine will unequivocally stand up against MAGA & the radical right.

I could go on…but I will get to the point by urging voters to ignore the fear-mongering whispers of the establishment—of which I was once a part, so I know what I’m talking about.

If any Democrat can win in November, it is Jermaine…not because of money or skin color, but because hope can and has trumped fear countless times throughout our nation’s short history.

On June 9 and November 3 (regardless of the primary outcome), I will joyfully vote for Jermaine Johnson For South Carolina. I implore you to do the same.
