Arts Center Receives Art Education Award

The Anderson Arts Center has been selected to receive the South Carolina Art Education Association (SCAEA) Business Supporter Award for 2023.

“We are so pleased to have received this award,” said April Cameron, executive director of the Arts Center. “It is our mission to advance the practice and appreciation of the arts, and we know that our art educators are in the trenches doing that every day. For them to recognize our efforts in this area is an honor.”

The SCAEA is a chapter of the National Art Education Association which advances visual arts education. To be selected for the Business Supporter Award, the entity must:

·               make monetary donations, goods donations, or exhibition space donations;

·               volunteer support of arts education;

·               provide assistance for the publicity and advocacy of art education;

·               recognize excellence in the many outstanding individuals, programs, and supporters of art education in SC;

·               focus professional attention on quality art education and exemplary art educators;

·               increase public awareness of the importance of quality art education;

·               set standards for quality education and demonstrate achievement;

·               provide tangible recognition of members' achievements;

·               earn the respect of colleagues; and 

·               enhance professional opportunities for SCAEA members.

The Anderson Arts Center supports local art education by annually hosting Youth Art Month for all five public school districts, private and home school associations; hosting an exhibit for art teachers, hosting the Anderson University senior art exhibit, providing working opportunities for art teachers, serving as advocates for art education, providing art classes to students in both alternative school settings, and providing art education programs to both youth and adults. 

The Anderson Arts Center will be recognized at the SCAEA Fall Conference in Greenville on Nov. 18, 2023.
