Council will vote at the March 11 meeting on how to proceed. The new park will include an extensive redesign of the park (see below), with trails, a new pavilion, playground equipment, traffic and parking changes, and a priority of restoring the Whitner Creek which runs through the park to a natural state.

After nearly five months, court will reopen in the Anderson County Courthouse on Friday.

Anderson County voters voted in even greater numbers that the statewide totals, with 68.69 percent of voters choosing Trump, and 30.61 percent voting for former S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley. Only four precincts in Anderson County, one in City of Anderson, Denver, Pendleton and Sandy Springs favored Nikki Haley.

It is also worth noting that the majority of current council members, who would identify themselves as conservatives, appointed members to the current library board. Four new members of that board were appointed since August of 2023. No council members have publicly suggested they made a mistake in their appointments of any of the seven board members (one chosen by each district).

Infrared photodetectors (IRPDs) are used in SWIR (Short-Wave Infrared) cameras to detect infrared light and convert it into an electrical signal. They are utilized in applications from night vision and thermal imaging to environmental monitoring, medical diagnostics, and consumer electronics. 

South Carolina has $1.8 billion of taxpayer funding sitting untouched in a bank account where it doesn’t belong. The elected officials in charge of managing the state’s finances don’t know or haven’t said where it was supposed to go after it went unaccounted for more than five years.

For almost 80 years, it was the heart of African-American commerce and culture in Anderson.

Currently each council member can appoint one member to the board. The new proposal would add two at-large seats. At an early meeting, some council members expressed concerns that because the library appointments were four-year terms, while council served two-year terms, it created the possibility that a council member might not be able to appoint a board member to the library if it is not within their term of office.

Council will also vote, on first reading, a proposal on a lease of the Tower Street building currently being used by Hope Missions of the Upstate to that ministry.

Few living citizens of the City of Anderson can match her accomplishments and legacy.

A new center, named for Anderson County native Jane Edna Hunter – who is among the most influential leaders of the 20th century – will be housed at the offices of the Anderson County United Way in cooperation with the Urban League of the Upstate.

Storyteller Dr. Nancy Tolson, Director of Undergraduate Studies in the African American Studies Program at the University of South Carolina, brought her tales to the Anderson County Library on Saturday to educate and entertain.

The actual number of those who at some point during 2023 may have experienced homelessness in Anderson County last year was 5,400, according to Zoë Hale, one of the directors of Home Missions of the Upstate in Anderson.

Sen. Richard Cash, R-Powdersville, told fellow senators he went back and forth before eventually voting “yes.” 

“I have decided to err on the side of pain relief for those who need pain relief,” said Cash, who also voted for it in 2022. “That doesn’t mean I’m oblivious to the public safety effects.” 

“We’re proud of the work we do recycling glass,” said Anderson County Solid Waste Director Greg Smith. “It makes a difference.”

Traffic is already an issue, especially during school pickup times, in the area. Crestview often sees backups of more than 30 cars at the Midway Road Stop sign during this time.  With more than 600 new housing units under construction near the intersection, most as part of the City of Anderson’s annexation efforts, traffic issues are expected to grow exponentially worse.

The poll found 65 percent of voters chose Trump, while 42.3 percent said they supported former S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley. Among those who identified themselves as Republicans, Trump boasts 72 percent of the voters in the poll.

Anderson City Council on Monday approved changes to the 30-acre Bailey Creek Commons townhouse subdivision on Simpson Road. Part of the development also includes annexation of an additional property for single-family detached houses.
