Council Moves Forward on Roads Referendum
Voters will be asked to fund road repair and maintenance with a penny sales tax, which would generate enough revenue over time for the county to catch on fixing roads. With more than 1,500 miles of county-owned roads, no serious efforts have been made in decades to properly fund road repair/maintenance, which has created a crisis across the county keeping roads safe and navigable.
2023 a Year of Rapid Growth in City of Anderson
The City of Anderson continued the trend of rapid growth in 2023. New housing, both downtown and throughout the city limits, new businesses, successful events, and expanded recreation opportunities reflected the growth.
County to Replace Cut Trees on Parkway
Anderson County took on the job of maintaining the trees which were planted on the state parkway which opened Nov. 8, 2013. Since the trees are on a state road, they are not the county’s responsibility, but as they grew and became unwieldy, the county tried to cut the trees back and keep them from canopying over the roadway creating potential hazards for drivers.

Holiday Events, Parades Fill Calendar in Days Ahead
It's the most wonderful time of the year, time to deck the halls, haul out the holly and get ready to light up this year's county Christmas tree downtown which now tops 46 feet. Piedmont and Williamston have already held events, and more county civic celebrations of the holidays with Christmas parades, tree lightings and other events on the horizon.
Piedmont Kicks Off Season with Winterfest
The Village of Piedmont kicked off the holiday season with Winterfest on Sunday, which was met with a warm crowd and cold temperatures.
In addition to music, food, hot chocolate and Santa, the event featured the annual Christmas tree lighting.
Williamston Winter Wonderland Delights Big Crowd
The tree and town hall behind it eventually were alight with Christmas cheer, as Santa visited the crowd while snow fell from the wintery machine setting the tone for the season. The Palmetto Elementary School Choir brought music as the town honored its first citizen of the year as part of the festivities.

Analysis: Downtown Christmas Tree a Money-Saving Holiday Treat
The total expenses for the tree, which now tops 46 feet, since 2015 come in at around $50,000. The costs related to purchase, setup, removal and disposal of a live Christmas tree on the courthouse square over the same period would have topped $150,000. The holiday savings will continue to grow in Anderson County’s Christmas fund for at least another seven years, since the artificial tree is under warranty until 2030.
