It’s not too late to register to vote in Anderson County’s November municipal elections, but time is growing short. Only those registered 30 days before the Nov. 7 elections will be eligible to vote in the races in Belton, Honea Path, Iva, Pendleton, Pelzer and West Pelzer. Friday is the deadline for in-person registration, Sunday is the deadline for online registration.

The library’s Youth Services department is accepting the donation of gently used costumes, dance outfits, etc. that are in good condition (i.e., show no visible stains, have minimal wear and tear, etc.) through Oct. 15. The outfits can be dropped off at the main branch of the library.

For year 12, Pendleton’s annual scarecrow contest is going historical, with a few fun exceptions.

The event features scarecrow historical figures such as Francis Marion and Thomas Green Clemson, as well as Andy and Barney on a Mayberry bench.

With less than five months until the 2024 South Carolina Feb. 24 GOP presidential primary, half of S.C. Republicans said they’re most likely to support Trump for the Republican nomination. Former S.C. Governor Nikki Haley trails Trump in her home state with 17 percent of Republicans supporting her nomination.

Anderson County Council will consider tax incentives for the expansion of two unnamed businesses already located in the county which would add a total of 243 new jobs and investments of more than $70 million, as part of Tuesday’s meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the historic courthouse downtown.

The purpose of the event is to demystify doctor and hospital visits for children (and their parents) through a series of activities and displays offering simulation of medical procedures with the teddy bear, or other stuffed animal as the patient.

In the interim, court proceedings will be moved to the historic courthouse, the Ronnie Townsend Building on North Main, the civic center, the county building at 1428 Pearman Dairy Rd, and other potential sites to be determined later.

Anderson City Council on Monday gave unanimous approval to the required redistricting map which must be in place in time to plan for the city’s April 2 municipal elections.

And while it predates the interstate, it is no historic landmark. The part southern ante-bellum and part early 20th Century neoclassical house was built in 1948. 

The filing states “(Duncan) has admitted to (Melody) that he has an ongoing sexual relationship,” with Washington lobbyist, Liz Williams. Duncan is now believed to be living with Williams. Williams is a former Federal Lobbyist at National Rifle Association.

Several council members, reluctant to lose streets or areas of their districts, had hoped for revisions in the map before Monday’s vote, but none were made.

Family Promise of Anderson, working with the Anderson University School of Nursing, asked students to scavenge for cardboard to tape together temporary structures they slept in overnight to get a feel for what it’s like for those who do this on a regular basis.
