Registration Open for Anderson County's Fastest Citizens Event

Sponsored by Anderson County, the 400-yard timed runs will begin every few minutes beginning at 9 a.m., for ages five and up, with races grouped by age. Only manual wheelchairs will be allowed in the time events and a first-place medals will be awarded-the male and female winners in each category.

Some S.C. Youthful Offenders Now Offered Clean Slate

A new provision would expand the South Carolina Youthful Offender Act to  allow those convicted of some nonviolent misdemeanors and low-level felonies to apply for those offenses to be removed from their criminal records. Violent crimes, such as domestic violence, and convictions that require the person to be added to the state’s sex offender registry are not included in the new law.

All-Male S.C. Supreme Court to Consider Abortion Ban Law

Tuesday's oral arguments will mark the second time since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down federal protections last summer that lawyers for the state and providers will present their arguments to the state Supreme Court. A 3-2 majority in January tossed a similar law that banned abortion once cardiac activity is detected, or at about six weeks and before most people know they are pregnant.
