Council agreed to look into legal navigation in a tree ordinance that will protect the land and streams from potentially problematic development.

Republican Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom has attracted mounting scrutiny since he first told lawmakers last month that he had unintentionally exaggerated the state’s cash position by $3.5 billion by overstating the amount the state had sent to colleges and universities.

On Monday, the City of Anderson will consider a resolution on funding from the South Carolina Textiles Communities Revitalization Act for a portion of property at 520 Fair Street which will be part of the proposed new housing development there.

The Textile League served as a kind of minor league for major league baseball, especially before the professional teams committed more resourced to their own minor organizations. But the fierce competitive nature of the sport led many mills by the 1940s and 1950s to recruit players from other towns, which was a major factor in the demise of textile league baseball. 

“The citizens of Anderson County are very fortunate to have this man working for us,” said County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn. “We appreciate the job Mr. Burns is doing. We are still lower (in salary) than other counties our size, but we want him to know we appreciate him. He doesn’t have a county car or phone and he works seven days a week.”
