The Textile League served as a kind of minor league for major league baseball, especially before the professional teams committed more resourced to their own minor organizations. But the fierce competitive nature of the sport led many mills by the 1940s and 1950s to recruit players from other towns, which was a major factor in the demise of textile league baseball. 

“The citizens of Anderson County are very fortunate to have this man working for us,” said County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn. “We appreciate the job Mr. Burns is doing. We are still lower (in salary) than other counties our size, but we want him to know we appreciate him. He doesn’t have a county car or phone and he works seven days a week.”

Anderson County implemented a new countywide EMS program in Sept. 2021, and has reported solid progress since the change from a loose coalition of volunteer rescue squads.
