Anderson City Council to Formally Set April Election Details

Greg Wilson/Anderson Observer

Anderson City Council on Monday at 6 p.m. in council chambers will take up a slate of issues ranging from setting the date for the next municipal election to rezoning land on the Highway 29 Bypass and approving several water and sewer contracts.

The meeting agenda calls for a second reading of Ordinance 25-18, which would formally set the city’s next general election for April 7, 2026, covering the races for mayor and council seats one, three, five and at-large seat seven, each for four-year terms. The ordinance also establishes the candidate filing window from noon Jan. 15 through noon Jan. 29, 2026, with any necessary runoff scheduled for April 21, 2026, and directs would-be candidates to file with the Anderson County Registration and Elections Office before paying filing fees at City Hall.

Under new business, council will consider a petition to rezone property at 409 Highway 29 Bypass North from light industrial (LI) to R-20 single-family residential, a move requested by the property owner to allow for residential use under the city’s zoning code. The agenda notes that the change would shift the site from an industrial classification to one intended for lower-density housing, subject to council’s approval.

Council is also scheduled to vote on three utility-related contracts: one for valve and hydrant maintenance across the city’s water system, another to upgrade a sewer line on East Orr Street, and a third to install a new water line along a portion of Michelin Boulevard. Those projects are framed as part of ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade Anderson’s water and sewer infrastructure in fast-growing corridors.
