The Anderson Area Touchdown Club closed its 2023 season by honoring the players and coach of the year Friday at their meeting at the Anderson Institute of Technology.

It's almost the end of the year, and Anderson County Administrator Rusty Burns expects the final few weeks to be a festive time for economic development announcements, with the potential for up to nine new businesses moving to the county or expanding operations here.

It kicks off Thanksgiving Day and will be open 5:30-10 p.m. through Christmas Day. Admission is $10 per car.

Council also gave initial approval to tax incentives for a three businesses looking to locate in the county. The first is a manufacturer of color concentrates and compounds which proposes to bring 24 new jobs with salaries of $28.88 per hour. A second company proposes to bring 28 new jobs with salaries of $19.28 per hour, and the third is a firm that produces finishing and decorating materials for the building trade which is proposing to bring 26 new jobs with salaries of $26.90 per hour.

In a close vote, 2,406 voters approved the referendum, while 2,259 voted no on the measure.

Most incumbents held their seats, and a few newcomers joined them in victory in Tuesday’s municipal elections in Anderson County.

“Stoker on Stoker: Dracula Revealed,” will include a multimedia presentation in which he delves into Bram's life story and how he came to write the famous Gothic horror novel. Utilizing Bram's personal papers, he will offer insights into life in Victorian England and the inspirations for the novel that gave birth to a pop culture fascination with vampires that has lasted 125 years.

Anderson Author Kathryn Smith, who first tackled the subject in “Baptists & Bootleggers: A Prohibition Expedition Through the South…. with Cocktail Recipes,” has brought a new batch of tales of the stills and those who reviled them in her latest book: “Methodists and Moonshiners: Another Prohibition Expedition Through the South…. with Cocktail Recipes.”

Voters in the district, which includes part of the Townville area, approved a referendum seeking zoning in their district in August.

Wagner said at the end of this term, he will have spent 34 years as part of the office, and that as the area grows and things change, the job is getting more challenging with every passing year. His years of service include time as deputy solicitor in the Tenth District and work in 13th Circuit in Greenville.

The Local Author and Small Press Fair featured a variety of genres, including children’s books, fiction, fantasy, religion, sports and nature.

Voters across Anderson County will go to the polls Tuesday, for municipal elections and, in School Dist. 4, to consider a referendum on funding the future of their schools.

The report card, which is both confusing and difficult to use as a measure of comparison, still offers glimpses of which schools are performing at or above expected levels, which are showing improvement, and which have work to do. Search by school here.

“This grant will help us to identify hazardous roads and road situations around the county,” said Anderson County Administrator Rusty Burns. “But more importantly, it will open up another avenue of federal funding for roads in Anderson County which we cannot access right now.”

More than 400 trick or treaters graced the parking lot next to West Pelzer’s Municipal Center, for the town’s annual Pumpkinpalooza.

The large bronze “Pegasus,” (the winged horse in Greek mythology, usually depicted as a white stallion) is part of the Millennium Pegasus work by sculptor Sandy Scott of Lander, Wyoming. The sculpture, with a wingspan of 14.5 feet, weighs 1.5 tons and comes to Anderson after a time on display in Denver. The installation is temporary and will likely be relocated to a permanent site within the next two-three years.

Duke said the average home customer will pay an extra $9 monthly.
