A community diversity event on Saturday allowed local and regional vendors to showcase their goods and services at the Anderson County Farmers Market.

Anderson City council will consider a referral to the City Planning Commission a petition to annex and zone to R-5, Single-Family Residential, approximately 0.76 acres located at 1920 and 1922 East Calhoun Street and 402 Simpson Road.

Youth Art Month is a nationwide campaign created to celebrate and promote arts education across the country. Created by The Council for Art Education, this annual celebration emphasizes the importance of visual arts for children and encourages support for quality school art programs.

The resort, located on the property of the old Tiger Cove Campground, will allow the development of sewer service which would also be used by Green Pond Landing and Events center. Green Pond is currently on septic tank, which is always a concern near the lake.

The EVOLV system uses algorithm technology along with cameras to detect concealed weapons. It detects shapes, density, and location to provide the operator with a targeted search indicator. The county’s annual event “Celebrate Anderson” will expand to four days, Sept. 1-4, with new activities at the Anderson Civic Center, including the annual balloon event of the Cancer Association of Anderson: “The Hot Air Affair: Rising Above Cancer.”

The non-partisan election is to fill the seat of Councilmember Pat Alexander who, after many years of service, is moving away from the area.

The lower chamber’s Republican supermajority on Wednesday continued its efforts to make South Carolina the 13th state with a ban from conception. By a 83-31 vote largely along party lines, the House advanced a bill including exceptions for rape, incest, fatal fetal anomaly and the patient’s health and life.

A new exhibit focuses on the future of farming on a large and small scale in the state. “The Future of Agriculture” shows the progress made over the decades and how modern methods and technology will improve farming in the years ahead.

Proposed legislation overcame another hurdle Tuesday when the state's House Judiciary Committee approved it by a 16-7 vote along party lines. The bill must still pass in the House, then the Senate. 

The theme of the Anderson conference will be: “Drivers of Economic Development.”
